The world’s largest grassroots environmental movement, Earth Hour returns by providing the biggest global unity for 60 minutes, in support and celebration of our planet
22 March 2025, Petaling Jaya – From 8:30 pm on 22 March 2025, WWF’s Earth Hour, the world’s largest global environmental movement returns to mobilise people around the world, across 190 countries and territories, as part of the efforts to create the ‘Biggest Hour for Earth’. Earth hour aims to inspire millions more to act, millions more to take notice of the challenges of biodiversity loss and climate change.

Since its creation in 2007, Earth Hour has been known for its “lights off” moment, as homes and global landmarks across the world including the iconic twin towers in Kuala Lumpur and other states of Malaysia, the Sydney Opera House, Beijing Phoenix Center, Taipei 101, the Eiffel Tower, and the Empire State Building switched off their lights for 60 minutes to show symbolic support for the planet and raise awareness of the environmental issues affecting it.
To celebrate Earth Hour 2025, WWF-Malaysia is elevating the occasion with the Earth Hour #MYTogetherPossible Youth Summit 2025, a collaboration with Sunway Centre for Planetary Health, Sunway University to empower young change makers and inspire collective action towards a sustainable future.

Chairman of WWF-Malaysia, Tan Sri Abdul Wahid Omar delivered the welcome speech and officiated the inaugural Earth Hour #MYTogetherPossible Youth Summit which features insightful discussions, interactive workshops, and a platform to exchange ideas with panelists across different expertise related to environmental conservation and sustainability.
In his welcome speech, Tan Sri Abdul Wahid said youth involvement is crucial for a sustainable future, as they bring fresh ideas, motivation and commitment. It is important to support the voices of young people, with their different points of view and abilities, we can create a more sustainable world for everyone.
He hopes the summit can deliver meaningful youth engagement and participation in nature conservation to help transform Malaysia into a sustainable nation by 2030, which is the goal of WWF-Malaysia’s #MYTogetherPossible youth movement.

Earth Hour #MYTogetherPossible Youth Summit 2025 is the first major event collaboration between WWF-Malaysia and Sunway University. Sunway University’s President, Professor Sibrandes Poppema said, "Sunway University is proud to collaborate with WWF-Malaysia for the Earth Hour #MYTogetherPossible Youth Summit 2025. This initiative aligns with our commitment to sustainability and planetary health by empowering young leaders to take meaningful action. He added, “Earth Hour is more than just turning off lights—it is a symbol of collective responsibility, and through education and advocacy, we can drive real change for our planet."
Earth Hour aims to create awareness about global warming and climate change that has dramatically changed the world since the movement started in 2007. Our planet has heated by 1.1°celsius since pre-industrial levels, and is on course to exceed the 1.5°celsius global temperature limit set by the Paris Agreement in 2030.
The next 5 years is crucial to ensure the global temperature is below the 1.5°celsius threshold. Individuals, communities, businesses, and governments must all step up efforts to protect our shared planet from further degradation.
The 60 minutes ‘lights off’ is more than a moment, it's a movement that for the last 18 years has continued to inspire and drive people globally, reminding us of our collective responsibility to create a more hopeful and resilient future for our planet.
