~ A Guide for Ecotourists: Nature in the Heart of Borneo ~
The 73-page book features many hidden mythical and charms of highland forests and people of the Malaysian Borneo in Sarawak. The guidebook is both practical and highly educational, coupled with the contents that illustrate strategies for attracting, obtaining and engaging the readers with enticing stories of the hidden gems unique to the area i.e. Long Semadoh and Ba’ Kelalan.
The guidebook was jointly published by WWF-Malaysia and a grassroot platform, Forum Masyarakat Adat Dataran Tinggi Borneo (FORMADAT). It is co-written by WWF- Malaysia’s Alicia Ng and Cynthia Chin.
WWF-Malaysia believes that this book will serve as an important part not only to present the wide range of attractions available in the Heart of Borneo to the public but also to promote ecotourism activities while preserving nature for the benefit of both humans and nature.
WWF-Malaysia advocates for the preservation of the natural environment, conservation of important flora and fauna species found in the area as well as human wellbeing that our environments provide for.
According to the author, Chin, Ba’ Kelalan and Long Semadoh have so much more to offer apart from beautiful countryside scenery. There are amazing historical, natural and cultural sites for visitors who love mystery and nature, and is an ideal place for bird- watching.
Chin stated, “The Nature in the Heart of Borneo has a clear purpose to help the local communities to feature and promote Ba’ Kelalan and Long Semadoh as destinations to go to in Sarawak in addition to the equally magnificent neighbouring areas such as Mulu or Bario.”
The books are sold at RM60 and can be bought through FORMADAT committee members in Ba’ Kelalan (Markus Labo +60178075009), Miri/Bario (John Trawe Kuda, +60194381777 or Lilla Raja, +60198060710), Long Semadoh (Padan Ukab, +60178313365) and Long Pa’ Sia’ (Pengiran Selutan +60178758310), or visit https://formadat.org.
