Few things are as Malaysian as football mania and Harimau Malaya. But while we have no shortage of skilled footballers, our tigers are critically endangered with less than 200 left in the wild. Once we lose them, there is no rematch. But there is hope if we can start playing as a team right now for Harimau Malaya.

The tiger’s role as top predator keeps prey populations in the forest under control. This helps to maintain a healthy ecosystem balance which is essential for clean water, food security and climate change mitigation. In other words, to save Harimau Malaya is to save ourselves.

While our anti-poaching teams are patrolling the Belum-Temengor forest, we are also working to establish a sustainable, long-term game plan at the policy and enforcement level. This includes lobbying for more boots on the ground, as well as setting up a National Tiger Task Force and a Wildlife Crime Bureau.
