HELP SAVE OUR TIGERS

With collective effort and determination, we can secure a future where tigers thrive in their natural habitats. Global Tiger Day is not just a celebration of these incredible animals, but a reminder of our responsibility to protect the natural world to safeguard our own future.

Join us this Global Tiger Day and take action to save our tigers! Donate to support our tiger conservation efforts.

On 29 July 2024, we come together to celebrate Global Tiger Day, a day dedicated to raising awareness about the tiger and the urgent need to protect this magnificent animal.

The Malayan tiger is Malaysia’s national animal, which symbolises courage and strength. It is represented in the emblems of the Royal Malaysian Police, our national football team and, more importantly, the Jata Negara, our national crest. Tigers are not only a symbol of strength and beauty but also play a vital role in maintaining the health of crucial forest ecosystems.

Poaching for illegal commercial trade is the greatest and most urgent threat to tigers and other wildlife in Malaysia, followed by loss and fragmentation of forests.

Your important donation will help WWF-Malaysia undertake tiger conservation efforts designed to reduce threats towards tigers and other wildlife living within the Belum-Temengor landscape, including:

  • Anti-poaching patrols
All patrol team members come from the local indigenous communities, who have been trained to patrol and collect data on poaching independently.

  • Tiger research
WWF-Malaysia has a team of field biologists and indigenous field assistants to carry out monitoring of the tiger population through the use of camera-traps.

  • Ecological linkages/land-use
WWF-Malaysia monitors land-use changes within Belum-Temengor and the surrounding areas to keep an eye out for development projects which might affect the integrity of the habitat.

  • Forest conservation
WWF-Malaysia works together with the Department of Forestry to improve the management of Temengor and other forest reserves within Belum-Temengor.

  • Community engagement
Strong alliances with community partners are essential for active involvement and in leading to a positive change in human behaviour for effective tiger conservation.

  • Advocacy
WWF-Malaysia engages with all levels of government to pursue the tiger conservation agenda; from federal to state level, to district and agency level.

Together, we can make a difference.
