Calling for Participation in Earth Hour Drawing Contest

World Wide Fund for Nature Malaysia (WWF-Malaysia), Sarawak Conservation Programme is holding a drawing contest in conjunction with the coming Earth Hour.

This contest is opened to anyone aged 15 years old and above who are currently studying or working in Sarawak. For Earth Hour 2020, WWF-Malaysia focuses on wildlife conservation.

The objectives of this contest are to:

  1. reflect the voices and opinions of students/public toward wildlife conservation through arts;
  2. encourage individual actions to life styles changes that are more environmentally friendly and ecologically responsible; and
  3. engage with students and public on wildlife conservation through arts and social media.

WWF-Malaysia Sarawak Head of Conservation, Dr Jason Hon urged the public to join people around the world to observe Earth Hour on 28 March 2020, between 8.30pm and 9.30pm, by turning off non-essential lights.

He said take the one-hour observation during Earth Hour is only a symbolic event, but it is hoped to inspire people to take initiatives beyond the 60 minutes and continue to voice out their concerns about nature, and put words into impactful actions.

“Small action like drawing wildlife-related artwork can be used as awareness tool to spread conservation messages and lend a hand to Mother Nature,” he said.

“This year, 2020 is the super year for biodiversity. It is the time to highlight the importance of our biodiversity and work together to halt further loss of our forests and wildlife. All wild animal and plant species are part of the biodiversity as well as the livelihoods of people, especially those who live closest to nature,” he added.

Visit WWF-Malaysia’s Facebook page and Instagram page for more information on themes, guidelines and rules, as well as prizes. Participation is free. The closing date for this contest is 31 March 2020.
