WWF-Malaysia is launching a national photography competition called “Eyes on the Wild” to build public awareness and support of nature conservation efforts.

Please read through the competition terms and conditions below, and submit your photographs via this form before 5.00pm (Malaysian time) on Monday, 29 September 2025. Participation is free. Thank you for participating and we wish you the best of luck to win.

Terms and Conditions

1. Introduction

1.1. The “Eyes on the Wild: A WWF-Malaysia Photography Challenge” National Photography Competition (the “Competition”) is organised by WWF-Malaysia with the objective of building public awareness and support of nature conservation efforts. 

1.2. These terms and conditions are applicable to this Competition that is promoted on and run through our website or other social media channels. Please read these “Terms and Conditions” carefully. By participating in this Competition, participants signify their agreement with an understanding of the following “Terms and Conditions” and the legal information pertaining to both this Competition and any material on it.

1.3. This Competition is free to enter (no purchase required, unless otherwise stated).

1.4. Promotions on social media are in no way sponsored, endorsed or administered by, or associated with, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn or any other online site or social media channels. 

1.5. You are providing your information to WWF-Malaysia and not to any other party. The information provided will be used in conjunction with our WWF Online Privacy Policy

1.6. Participants are only allowed to submit photographs of wildlife and wild spaces taken within Malaysia, within the contest period without altering the natural state of the environment, including but not limited to, flora and fauna.
 

2. Duration

2.1. The Competition starts at 08:00 (Malaysian time) Wednesday, 9 July 2025, and ends at 17:00 (Malaysian time) Monday, 29 September 2025. 

2.2. Any entries received before the opening or after the closing of the Competition will be invalid and will not be considered into the Competition.

 

3. Eligibility

3.1. The Competition is open under two (2) categories:

i. Youth category: Open to all Malaysians aged 18 to 24 years; 

ii. Adult category: Open to all Malaysians aged 25 years and above.

3.2. Both amateur and professional photographers are welcome to participate.

3.3. Members, employees or immediate family of WWF-Malaysia, its agents, or anyone else connected to the administration and execution of the Competition may participate in this Competition but are not eligible to win any prizes.
 

4. How to participate 

4.1. Participants are required to complete the official entry form (here), which includes, among other details, the following:

i. Full name and NRIC number of the photographer

ii. Email address

iii. Mobile number 

iv. Photo captions/descriptions (no more than 50 words)

v. Category: Youth or Adult

vi. Date and geotag of the photo taken as proof of the location of the photo. 

4.2. RAW files of submitted photographs will be required during the judging stage to verify credibility and authenticity, as well as to ensure no stock images or AI generated content are submitted. The RAW files will only be used for verification purposes and will not be redistributed or edited without Participant’s permission.

4.3. Please note that each participant can only submit up to a maximum of three (3) photographs, based on their Malaysian Identity Card Number. 

4.4. Impactful descriptions of no more than fifty (50) words relevant to the photographs are definitely an advantage during the judging process.

4.5. Participants may use any of the following devices:

i. Compact Digital Camera

ii. Digital SLR or Mirrorless camera

iii. Mobile phone (for Youth category only)

4.6. Photographs must be taken at a minimum of eight (8) megapixels or greater and submitted at full resolution, along with EXIF information. Only “JPG/JPEG” format photographs will be accepted.

4.7. All entries in the Youth Category that are shared via personal social media account (Facebook or Instagram), using these hashtags #wwfmy #EyesOnTheWild will receive bonus marks.

4.8. All photographs submitted must be taken within Malaysia, showcasing wildlife and/ or wild spaces. Participants shall ensure all photographs taken demonstrate respect for both the subject and the environment. Any photography practices or processes that are disruptive or damaging to the environment, such as luring out wildlife or birds, are strictly prohibited.

4.9. All photographs must be original of the Participants. Submission must not infringe upon the rights of any third party, including but not limited to copyright or privacy rights. 

4.10. All photographs must accurately reflect the subject matter. Only basic image optimisation is allowed, including minimal adjustments to exposure, contrast, brightness, sharpness, saturation, vibrance, cropping, and removal of dust or scratches. Photographs that have been altered beyond these limits will be disqualified. This includes photo composites (combination of two (2) or more photographs), the addition, duplication, deletion or moving of objects in the photographs or the use of artistic filters and effects, including black and white effect.

4.11. The jury reserves the right to disqualify any participants who fail to comply with these conditions. This includes, but are not limited to, photographs that do not meet minimum photography criteria, such as lack of sharpness or exposure, or those involving unethical conduct during the photography processes.

 

5. Prizes

5.1. Youth Category 

i. Winner: RM500 cash prize + WWF-Malaysia merchandise + Love Nature merchandise

ii. 1st Runner-up: RM300 cash prize + WWF-Malaysia merchandise + Love Nature merchandise

iii. 2nd Runner-up: RM100 cash prize + WWF-Malaysia merchandise + Love Nature merchandise

5.2. Adult Category 

i. Winner: RM500 cash prize + WWF-Malaysia merchandise + Love Nature merchandise

ii. 1st Runner-up: RM300 cash prize + WWF-Malaysia merchandise + Love Nature merchandise

iii. 2nd Runner-up: RM100 cash prize + WWF-Malaysia merchandise + Love Nature merchandise

5.3. All winners will receive an e-certificate of achievement, which may be included in professional portfolios or CVs. The winning photographs will be: 

i. Acknowledged and published on WWF-Malaysia’s social media channels e.g. facebook.com/wwfmy

ii. in a digital photobook on wwf.org.my

5.4. Winner announcement will be made on Monday, 20 October 2025, via e-mail to the winners and on WWF-Malaysia’s Facebook account facebook.com/wwfmy.

5.5. Each participant is eligible to win only one (1) prize during the Competition period.

5.6. WWF-Malaysia shall have the right to disqualify the winner and offer the prize to the next eligible winner if the winner fails to respond to WWF-Malaysia notification attempts within ten (10) days from the email to the winner sent by WWF-Malaysia.

5.7. WWF-Malaysia and the judges’ decision in relation to every aspect of the Competition including but not limited to the Prize and the selection of winner shall be deemed final and conclusive under any circumstance. No further appeal, enquiry and/or correspondence will be entertained. In the case of no winner, WWF-Malaysia reserves the right to withhold the prize amount partially or fully, or modify it at its discretion.

5.8. WWF-Malaysia reserves the right and discretion to delete, remove, ignore or reject photographs that are deemed improper or offensive in any manner, or which violates the “Terms and Conditions”.

5.9. WWF-Malaysia reserves the right to cancel, disqualify and forfeit the Prize from the winner in the event that the winner has breached any of the terms and conditions of this Competition.

5.10. No cash alternative to the merchandise portion of the prizes offered. The prizes are not transferable. 

5.11. All unclaimed winning prizes will be forfeited within one (1) month from the announcement.
 

6. Intellectual Property Rights

6.1. The participants warrant to WWF-Malaysia that they own the copyright to all photographs submitted and the photographs do not infringe upon any other third party’s rights and that WWF-Malaysia’s use of the photographs in accordance with these rules will not infringe any person's intellectual property rights or other legal rights. Participants who are found to have submitted non-original and non-proprietary photographs will be disqualified.

6.2. By submitting the photographs, participants retain full ownership of their photographs but grant WWF-Malaysia an exclusive, worldwide, royalty free, perpetual and irrevocable license to copy, store, edit, distribute, reproduce, display, share and create derivative works of the submitted photographs in connection with the Competition and for the promotion of WWF-Malaysia’s conservation work.

6.3. All photographs used by WWF-Malaysia will be credited as © ‘Photographer’s Name’/ WWF-Malaysia.

6.4. Participants may not use the submitted photographs for any commercial purposes (e.g. sale, licensing, or entry into other commercial competitions) without the prior written consent of WWF-Malaysia. However, non-commercial uses (e.g. exhibitions, portfolios, personal blogs, or educational uses) are permitted, provided that WWF-Malaysia is credited where appropriate and such use does not conflict with WWF-Malaysia’s campaigns or reputation.

 

7. Changes and Cancellation

7.1. WWF-Malaysia reserves the right to make updates and/or make any changes to, or modify the Terms and Conditions or the scope of the Competition at any time without prior notice to the Participants.

7.2. WWF-Malaysia reserves the right to modify or cancel the Competition or any of the arrangements, schedules, plans or other items directly or indirectly related to the Competition, at any time and for any reason it deems necessary. 
 

8. Publicity

8.1. Photographs and videos may be taken during the Competition, for example during the prize-giving ceremony or Facebook Live. By registering, participants acknowledge and agree that WWF-Malaysia may use these photographs and videos for the purpose of communications of the Competition and other related programmes organised by WWF-Malaysia. If you disagree with this usage, please write in, and we will remove or blur the images / videos in our communications channels.

8.2. WWF-Malaysia will not pay any fees for, nor bear any costs relating to the entry of the Participant into the Competition or for the use of related photographs or videos as described above. Where possible and to the extent feasible, WWF-Malaysia will credit the photographs and videos, if any, as follows when publishing: © First and last name of Participants / WWF-Malaysia.

8.3. Participants consent to provide details (full name, NRIC number, email address, mobile number) when submitting entries and further acknowledge and agree that WWF-Malaysia may use and publish their full name, photograph submissions and photograph descriptions for the purpose of communications of the Competition on WWF-Malaysia communications channels and its media collaborator communications channels, including but not limited to MEASAT Broadcast Network Systems Sdn Bhd. or its affiliates.
 

9. Risks and Costs

9.1. The participant acknowledges that his/her participation in the Competition shall be at his/her own risks. All Participants in the Competition shall assume full responsibility in case of any accident, damage or loss resulting from participation in any manner in the Competition.

9.2. WWF-Malaysia shall not be liable to any Participants in respect of any error (including notification of contest winners), failure to win a prize, defective prizes or misuse of prizes or any other loss, damages, costs, expenses, claims, liabilities during the Competition or arising out of or in connection with the Competition, the participation by the Participants in the Competition and/or the prizes awarded.

9.3. All administration costs and personal costs, including but not limited to any other costs, fees and/or expenses that are incurred to participate in the Competition and/or redemption and/or usage of the prize shall be the sole responsibility of the participants and respective winners.
