Penang: WWF-Malaysia’s annual Art for Nature exhibition, themed ‘Saving Wild Lives’ this year, was officially launched today in conjunction with World Animal Day. YB Tuan Yeoh Soon Hin, State EXCO for Tourism Development, Heritage, Culture and Arts and YB Dato’ Seri Khor Teng Tong, Founder of Hunza Group were the guests-of-honour at the exhibition in Gurney Paragon Mall, which was presented by WWF-Malaysia, Island Gallery and the Art Gallery. Half the proceeds from the sale of artworks will be channelled to WWF-Malaysia’s conservation efforts.

“As we celebrate World Animal Day on 4 October, it is timely that we reflect on the plight of Malaysia’s endangered wildlife, and work together to help protect them. We have much in common with our wildlife, which demonstrate many admirable qualities such as courage, resilience and a nurturing nature. By saving wild lives, we are not only safeguarding a natural treasure for our children, and their children after them; we are also protecting our healthy forests, and indirectly safeguarding our own survival,” said Mr Dominic Wong, WWF-Malaysia Director of Marketing, Communications and Major Donors.

“While we are inspired by the courage and protectiveness shown by wild animals, we should also realise something else that we share: our dependence on healthy forest ecosystems. Humans and wildlife alike need healthy forests to provide fresh air, freshwater, soil stability and a natural shield from the adverse effects of climate change. Saving wild lives and wild spaces is not limited to protecting forests, we must be careful to conserve our natural resources such as freshwater in our cities as well,” said YB Tuan Yeoh Soon Hin, who then spoke about some of the State Government’s efforts to help Penang achieve sustainable development in line with the global Sustainable Development Goals 2030.

WWF-Malaysia thanked YB Tuan Yeoh Soon Hin, YB Dato’ Seri Khor Teng Tong, Madam Cheong from Island Gallery, Ms Ee Lene Tan from The Art Gallery, Gurney Paragon Mall, as well as the talented artists and generous collectors, along with in-kind sponsors YES Media and Percetakan Imprint.
