Run for Rhinos Virtual Run
Throughout June 2022, the Australian Matriculation (AUSMAT) Student Council of Sunway College had organised a virtual run event, Run for Rhinos (R4R). With the tagline 'Don’t Let Rhinos become Dinos', the run has one main objective: to raise funds in support of WWF-Malaysia's conservation efforts. R4R is AUSMAT’s one of many events in line with the Sustainable Developmental Goals (SDGs), specifically SDG 3: Good Health and Wellbeing and SDG 15: Life on Land.
R4R serves as a medium to empower the Sunway College community, as you don’t have to be a politician or a scientist to contribute to the SDGs. Simply joining charity events such as R4R is an impactful step forward to support organisations such as WWF-Malaysia to continue their conservation efforts.
With two running categories; 10km and 20km and award categories such as the Most Distance Covered and the Fastest Runner, a total of 58 participants joined the run, leading to a grand total of RM2000.00 being collected! The committee also received a free, custom mock-cheque courtesy of Sun Global Stationaries in support of R4R.
On 14 July 2022, a mock-cheque presentation ceremony with Ms. Suan Tan, WWF-Malaysia Senior Manager of Brand Marketing was held. After months of communicating online, the meet-up was filled with a sense of relief and gratitude. Brief discussions were also made on creating deeper, more diverse forms of collaboration in the future such as in-campus talks, games, and booths. It is truly exciting to see what the future holds for this collaboration, and the impact it could bring towards the SDGs.
Note: WWF-Malaysia sincerely thanks Mr. Aminuddin Baharudin and the AUSMAT Student Council of Sunway College for their meaningful support of our nature conservation efforts.
