Royal Belum State Park, spanning 128,272 hectares of one of the world’s oldest rainforests, is one of the most ecologically significant tiger landscapes in Southeast Asia and among the last remaining habitats of the critically endangered Malayan Tiger (Panthera tigris jacksoni). In 2017, the park became the first site in Southeast Asia to register under the Conservation Assured | Tiger Standards (CA|TS), an internationally recognised accreditation framework that evaluates the management effectiveness of tiger conservation areas across seven pillars and 174 criteria. Six years later, in 2023, Royal Belum achieved full CA|TS Accreditation, becoming Southeast Asia’s first CA|TS Approved site.

This document details the full accreditation journey, covering the park’s ecological and legal importance, community governance, ranger training, habitat management, and annual tiger population surveys. It provides a comprehensive look at what is needed to achieve the international gold standard for tiger conservation, and what can be achieved when government agencies, local communities, and conservation organisations collaborate towards a common goal.
