XL Results Foundation recognises vital role of WWF in Malaysia

Posted on 30 October 2007

Participants at the Kuala Lumpur XL Wealth Dynamics Experience event, held from 5 - 7 September, had the satisfaction of knowing that they were supporting a good cause while investing in self improvement. XL Results Foundation donated RM106,250 generated from the event to WWF-Malaysia’s crucial conservation work.

WWF was established in Malaysia in 1972 and works closely with the Government, organisations such as XL, other NGOs and the Malaysian community to strengthen its conservation activities in the region and thereby contribute significantly to Malaysia’s development as a leader of environmental excellence. Globally, WWF currently funds around 2,000 conservation projects and employs almost 4,000 people around the world. The organisation is almost unique in that it has local presence and a global network - able to talk to villagers living next door to wildlife in Malaysia while working with institutions such as the United Nations and the European Commission.

Roger Hamilton, XL Chairman, commented, “The XL Group has long recognised the vital work carried out by the WWF in Malaysia and with this in mind we decided that a large percentage of the proceeds for our Wealth Dynamics Experience event held in Malaysia, would be given to the WWF. I continue to be disturbed by the reality of wildlife endangerment and that my children will never see wildlife that I have seen.”

WWF-Malaysia Marketing Director Choon Bow Bow elaborated on just a few examples of WWF-Malaysia’s conservation programmes, “The XL contribution will make a positive difference in conserving Malaysia's magnificent wild spaces, provider of our natural resources and home to a vast variety of plants and animals, including elephants, tigers and hornbills. These include Kelantan's Gunung Stong and Kedah's Ulu Muda protected areas as well as Terengganu's Setiu Wetlands. Delegates of the Wealth Dynamics Experience will also be helping to conserve the Sulu-Sulawesi Marine Ecoregion, home to more than 500 species of coral, 1200 species of reef fish, whale sharks, dugongs, 5 of the world's 7 species of sea turtles and much more marine life. These waters also sustain about 50 million people with protein from reef fishes as well as food and vitamins from plants”.
