WWF-Malaysia, the national conservation trust, held a special event on Sunday at Taman Tasik Titiwangsa. The fifth WWF Canoe Challenge required participating teams to paddle in relay in a two-person canoe, non-stop, for eight hours.

Ten teams enthusiastically participated in this canoe race: HSBC Bank Malaysia Berhad, which sent two teams, ASTRO’s Animal Planet, BOH Plantations, Dumex, Kiwanis Club of Kuala Lumpur, Royal Selangor, SP Setia, Tractors Malaysia and host team WWF-Malaysia.

Speaking at the event, WWF-Malaysia's Director of Fundraising & Marketing Ms Choon Bow Bow underlined the importance of teamwork during the WWF Canoe Challenge. Teamwork between WWF-Malaysia and the corporate sector was also acknowledged as an important part of effectively protecting Malaysia’s rich natural heritage. Ms Choon commended the organisations for their exemplary corporate social responsibility, as their participation fee of RM10,000 per team would be channelled towards WWF-Malaysia’s crucial nature conservation work.

The top three teams: champion HSBC 1, second place winner BOH Plantations and third place winner HSBC 2, all won pewter trophies generously sponsored by Royal Selangor. Nomad Adventure Sdn Bhd organised the WWF Canoe Challenge, a role they have fulfilled since the first event in 2002. Flow-Line sponsored T-shirts and Permanis sponsored drinks while goody bag sponsors included TGV Cinemas, True Fitness, Eccentric Events and Hisamitsu.
