Did you know after millions of years, the Malaysian rainforest is one of the most biodiverse systems on the planet?

Unfortunately now, it needs your help to live to see another day.

Dear Friend,

Our rainforests have evolved over millions of years to become the incredibly complex environment it is today. In fact, it’s an immense store of living, renewable natural resources that provide us with basic materials for food, clothing, fuel, fiber and medicine, as well as shelter and a range of ecosystem services critical to our survival. However, the tropical rainforest is an intricate and fragile system. And when everything is so interdependent, even upsetting a small portion can lead to the eventual destruction of the whole.

Our rainforest in ULU Muda is being threatened.
It’s a problem that’s affecting us in more ways than you can imagine.
Which is why I am writing to you for a gift of RM100 or more to continue
our work to establish Ulu Muda as a protected area.

The Ulu Muda forest which covers an area of approximately 160,000ha (that’s twice the size of Perlis) is being threatened by logging. This is unfortunate since Ulu Muda hosts a substantial population of large mammals, a rich diversity of bird species and is critical to the continuous supply of water for domestic, industrial and agricultural use in the northern areas of Peninsular Malaysia.

Although we don’t need direct day-to-day contact with the Ulu Muda rainforest, its biodiversity contribute directly to our continued existence.

•    Rainforest animals play an important role in the food chain.
There are 50 species of bats recorded in Ulu Muda. These bats help to pollinate fruit trees and regulate the population of pests.

•    The rainforest is a life force in itself.

The Ulu Muda catchment forest supplies water to Kedah, the largest rice-growing state in the country. It directly benefits the livelihood of about 48,000 families.

•    The vegetation in the rainforest helps to cushion “natural” disasters.
Logging in Ulu  Muda will lead to higher incidence of flooding due to increased surface runoff and siltation of rivers and other water courses downstream of the forest.

We cannot save Ulu Muda alone. So we’re turing to your generosity for a gift of RM100 or more to help establish Ulu Muda as a protected area as well as improve existing protected areas so that our forests will remain intact and well managed.

Sincerely,

Dato’ Dr. Dionysius S. K. Sharma
Executive Director/CEO

PS: Thank you in advance for your gift of RM100 or more in helping us save our rainforests! Please help us make that difference for you and the generations to follow.
