Tun Mustapha Marine Park
Help us conserve one of the world’s richest spots for marine life. Located in the waters off the northern tip of Sabah, the Tun Mustapha Marine Park will soon be gazetted. Your funds will help WWF-Malaysia to assist the State Government in managing the area, thus ensuring better protection of the diverse sea creatures there, which sustain 80,000 coastal communities.The park is within the Sulu Sea, an area that has been described by conservationists as the global centre of marine biodiversity, or the heart of our world’s waters. Bordered by Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines, it is the focus of a tri-nation conservation effort.

Educating Environmental Citizens
To protect our living planet, we must educate future generations about nature conservation. Your support will help our work aimed at having an environmental education (EE) policy integrated into the National Curriculum. The first step will involve a national survey of environmental awareness among 12,000 respondents, representing all segments of Malaysian society, to identify gaps in knowledge. Protect Ulu Padas in the Heart of Borneo
Ulu Padas in south-western Sabah is part of Borneo’s mountainous heartland and one of the most important areas for plant biodiversity in Asia. Orchids, pitcher plants and gingers are abundant here. Moreover, it is the upper catchment of the Padas River, one of the largest river systems in Sabah, which supplies water to towns and a significant agricultural belt in southern Sabah. Forest conservation in Ulu Padas is vital to manage this key water resource. Your support will help our efforts to establish a protected area in Ulu Padas to ensure long-term conservation and sustainable development.FY07: Needs: RM1,036,699

Gunung Stong State Park
The Gunung Stong State Park, famous for the Jelawang Waterfall that is one of Malaysia’s tallest, has a rich variety of plant and animal life. This includes elephants, tigers and hornbills as well as the Rafflesia kerii, one of the world’s largest flowers. Your funds will help us support the Kelantan State Government’s commitment to gazette the Gunung Stong State Park and employ experts to oversee its management.FY07 – Funds secured RM262,944 (Contributed by the Malaysian public)

Help Terengganu’s Turtles
WWF-Malaysia works to help conserve marine turtles, including green turtles and hawksbills, which nest at Terengganu’s beaches. Our efforts include these two projects:1. Prevent wasteful turtle deaths
Many turtles die after being accidentally trapped in gear designed to catch fish. Your funds will help us study how many are killed this way so we can develop measures to mitigate this threat.

2. Engaging Local Communities

Saving Malacca’s Hawksbill Turtles and Painted Terrapins
Your funds will help us assist the Department of Fisheries to protect the critically endangered hawksbills and Painted terrapins in Malacca, the most important nesting site for both species in Peninsular Malaysia.To protect these animals and their home, we need to:
1. Effectively protect and manage critical nesting habitats as well as increase protection of hawksbill eggs and improve success at the Padang Kemunting hatchery

Sustainable Management of Setiu Wetlands
The Setiu Wetlands are the breeding ground of various fishes crucial to Peninsular Malaysia’s fisheries sector and the livelihood of local villagers. It is also home to the critically endangered Painted terrapin and River terrapin. Your funds will help us support the Terengganu State Government’s plan to sustainably develop the wetlands. This will improve the living standards of local communities while conserving the area’s natural resources to benefit all Malaysians.FY07 – Funds secured:
