for A Living Planet
Thank you to our supporters for making 2010 a year of great achievements! Continued support will certainly help conserve more wildlife and their habitat.
Dear Friend,
We are grateful to our WWF-Malaysia supporters for enabling us to make great strides in our conservation work. And you’ll be pleased to know that contributions from WWF supporters helped to not only empower those involved in our cause but also spread the word to educate the masses about the endangered species and the habitats they occupy. So I urge you for your support to send a gift of RM 100 or more help conserve more wildlife and their habitat.
Proof every cent can go a long way: Our success stories of 2010.
Four tiger cubs were discovered in the Temengor Forest Reserve - evidence of successful breeding. In fact, during our tiger monitoring exercise, we also identified nine adult tigers in this 300 square kilometer area. And to ensure a healthy population of tigers, we’ve also garnered the support of the Orang Asli villagers to organize community volunteer watch groups to detect and deter encroachers. With their support – and greater CARE from WWF supporters of course – we’re hoping to see a boost in the number of tigers in the wild in the years to follow.
The Prime Minister receives our Turtle Memorandum detailing the current status and threats faced by turtles. This was certainly an important achievement for us. The EGG=LIFE campaign in 2008 garnered over 100,000 signatures from WWF donors and the general public. Now with the Prime Minister’s support, we hope our recommendations in the memorandum will be initiated at the Federal level.
A women’s group in Terengganu is actively educating their communities about the importance of ceasing turtle egg sales and consumption. Our supporter’s contribution is also going toward community awareness. This initiative is led by conservation ambassadors from Persatuan Wanita Kampung Mangkok Setiu (PEWANIS) with the objective of protecting turtles and painted terrapins while motivating increased participation in mangrove replanting efforts to conserve nesting grounds. To date 3,000 seedlings have been planted and the surrounding environment has seen an increase in flora and fauna.
These achievements wouldn’t have been possible without generosity from our supporters. However, there’s also a bigger picture to these success stories. Solely replenishing the species is simply not enough.
Their habitat also has to be protected in order for them to thrive! Unfortunately, there are many hurdles to clear before we can get all those involved on the same page and fighting the same cause! We need to continue our efforts to save the tigers, the marine turtles, rhinos and other wildlife’s habitats.
Counteracting these issues require funding. And this is why we’re turning to you for help with a gift of RM 100 or more. All the successes we’ve achieved will certainly go to waste if we are not able to continue conservation work.
These are only a few examples of our achievements in 2010. There are scores of case studies, stories, statistics and discoveries that have borne the fruits of success. Time is of the essence and there’s still a lot to do. Every cent counts because your contribution of RM 100 or more will not only fuel the planning and preparation for goals we’ve set but also to assist with emergencies and rescue efforts along the way.
We have to remember, time is all we have and funding is what we need most!
I thank you in advance for your generosity. Act Now!
Sincerely,

- Working and coordinating with the different authorities to standardize the establishment, management and operations processes of forest protected areas. More importantly, to effectively manage the over-collection of natural resources while preventing poaching and irresponsible tourism.
- Increasing awareness of the public and local community on the importance of these protected areas and how they contribute to environmental stability provide livelihood to the communities as well as how it impacts our future.
- Focusing on the needs of the indigenous communities living within these areas to incorporate community participation as well as reaping shared benefits from biodiversity conservation.
