Symbolic Animal Adoption FAQ
Q) What is symbolic adoption?
A) Symbolic adoption is a donation option for members of the public to support WWF-Malaysia’s conservation efforts in saving endangered species and their habitats.
Q) How can I symbolically adopt an animal?
A) You can symbolically adopt an animal by making a monthly donation of RM30 or more via credit card or auto debit. Monthly donations provide consistent funding that enable us to plan our long-term conservation work and continue protecting Malaysia’s natural heritage. If you are not able to commit to a monthly donation now, you can also choose to make a 1-time donation of RM210 or more.
Q) How can I pay for my symbolic adoption?
A) The most convenient way to donate is via online at wwf.org.my/tiger. Alternatively, call us at 603-7803 3772. You can also choose to make a 1-time donation by sending a cheque, money or postal order, made payable to WWF-Malaysia.
Q) What do I get as an adopter?
A) As an adopter, you will receive an educational symbolic adoption kit which includes a personalized adoption certificate, a high-quality stuffed toy, informational leaflet, a reusable gift bag and a tax-deductible receipt. In addition, you will receive WWF’s quarterly Green Heart magazine mailed separately.
Q) What animals can I symbolically adopt?
A) Currently you can choose to symbolically adopt a tiger, turtle, orang-utan or panda.
Q) What is the name of my animal?
A) WWF animal adoptions are symbolic, so you're helping us save all animals at risk of extinction, not just one. WWF works to save threatened wildlife and habitats, and your support will help make these efforts possible.
Q) Can I visit the animals that I adopted?
A) Your donations will support our conservation efforts in saving endangered animals but not directly rearing them. The animals are in the wild and cannot always be tracked and visited.
Q) Can I adopt more than one and have different names for each certificate?
A) You certainly can. You simply have to provide a list indicating which certificate goes with which adopted animal.
Q) Do I have to pay additional postage and handling charges?
A) No. There is no additional postage and handling charges for delivery within Malaysia. Should you wish to send to an address outside of Malaysia, we will need to check the courier charges to be charged
separately from the donation amount. All overseas couriers are via FedEx.
Q) When can I expect to receive my symbolic adoption kit?
A) Do allow 4 weeks from receipt of donation for processing and delivery of adoption kits.
Q) What if there is no one home to receive the courier package?
A) GDex will make 2 attempts to get in touch by phone with the intended recipient to set an appointment for delivery. Failing which, the package will be returned to WWF. Adopter will need to pay for the courier cost the second time.
Q) Can I pick it up instead? Would it be cheaper?
A) It would be more convenient for you if we courier the adoption kit to your doorstep. However, if you’d still like to pick it up, you can do so at our PJ office between 8.30am to 12.30pm and 1.30pm to 5.00pm, Mondays to Thursday and 8.30am to 12.30pm and 2.30pm to 5.00pm on Fridays. The office is closed on weekends and public holidays. You would need to indicate that you wish to pick-up the kits. Someone from the office will call you to advice you on a pick-up date once your donation is processed.
Q) Do I get the magazines together?
A) WWF Green Heart magazine is published on a quarterly basis. Each issue will be mailed to you separately.
Q) Can you ship it to different addresses?
A) If you need us to courier the adoption kits to a different address, you need to provide courier details such as recipient’s name, contact no. and address. However, you are required to contact the respective recipients to expect and accept the courier package. Orders are processed under the adopter’s name.
Q) Can I send it to an address outside of Malaysia?
A) This offer is only valid within Malaysia. Should you wish to send to an address outside of Malaysia, we will need to check the courier charges to be charged separately from the donation amount. All overseas couriers are via FedEx.
Q) Can I get a refund if the courier package received is not in good condition?
A) We regret that once the donation is processed, the adoption is not refundable or exchangeable. Goods are couriered in good condition and WWF is not held liable to incidents that happen while in transit.
Q) Can I cancel my symbolic adoption?
A) Every ringgit is crucial to carry out our conservation work and we hope we continue to merit your kind support. However, should you ever need to discontinue your donation, all you have to do is to contact us so that we may advise you further on how you could continue to help us in our quest to conserve.
Q) Can I change my symbolic adoption?
A) Once the donation has been processed, the symbolic adoption cannot be changed. If you wish to add another symbolic adoption, you certainly can.
