IKEA Malaysia

IKEA Malaysia and WWF-Malaysia kicked off a new partnership in Malaysia, joining forces to inspire environmental activism among local school children and fund new waste management initiatives.
IKEA Malaysia eliminated plastic bags from its business in 2011 and is now donating money it earns from selling recyclable blue bags to the WWF-Malaysia Eco-schools Programme - a total of RM 300,000 over next three years.
The Eco-Schools Programme is an international initiative that promotes environmental and sustainability education in more than 60 countries around the world. WWF-Malaysia became an associate member of Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) in 2010 and has been the national operator for the Eco-Schools Programme in Malaysia ever since, with over 80 participating schools so far.

The programme links directly to an important arm of IKEA sustainability strategy – to  enable customers to live a more sustainable life at home

IKEA Malaysia strives to reduce waste in all corners of our business. Reducing waste makes good business sense because it reduces our costs – but most of all it supports our IKEA vision: to create a better everyday life for the many people. Making a positive impact on people and our planet is a key to our sustainability strategy. The partnership with WWF-Malaysia is a great opportunity to share our knowledge while educating the future generation to inspire a better life for people and communities.
