Langkawi

Important refuge at southern end of a coral rich archipelago

The Langkawi Archipelago’s 99 islands are situated off the northwest tip of Peninsular Malaysia, where the Andaman Sea narrows down into the Straits of Malacca.  Langkawi has been identified as one of the hot spots for biodiversity and an important refuge for both marine and terrestrial species.  This group of islands forms the southern end of a long chain of coral rich islands along the west coast of the Malaysian-Thai Peninsula.
