Our work

The Kinabatangan and Selangor river basins are the two river basins of interest to WWF-Malaysia. WWF-Malaysia has considerable involvement in ensuring sufficient emphasis is given to freshwater habitats conservation and ecological processes maintenance within the Integrated River Basin Management (IRBM) context in these two river basins.

In the Kinabatangan river basin, WWF-Malaysia works in partnership with relevant authorities particularly the Department of Irrigation and Drainage, Sabah to prioritise and provide support for translating into action the key recommendations from the Kinabatangan IRBM Plan. The Kinabatangan IRBM Plan and river basin information management system have been developed through a collaborative effort between the relevant authorities and WWF-Malaysia.

WWF-Malaysia’s involvement in the Selangor river basin is primarily providing inputs on the freshwater aquaculture component (e.g. its impacts, strategy for sustainable aquaculture and other related issues) for inclusion into the IRBM Plan for the river basin.
