Wilderness First Aid Course in GSSP
As part of WWF-Malaysia’s Gunung Stong State Park (GSSP) project to build the capacity of locals, WWF-Malaysia organised a First Aid and CPR course from 25 to 27 March 2008 in the nearby town of Dabong. Titled ‘Wilderness First Aid & CPR’, the course focused on giving first aid in remote areas such as forests or caves.
GSSP progresses with Technical Committee meeting
The final draft of the Gunung Stong State Park (GSSP) Preliminary Management Plan was presented at the GSSP Technical Committee meeting on 18 December 2007. Chaired by the Kelantan State Forestry Department, the committee discussed the main issue of the document, which included proposed budgets, staffing and management zones.
Building Local Community Skills
16 local community members from Dabong, Jelawang, Gua Musang attended an absolutely free of charge, “no frills” “Basic Entrepreneurship” course in July 2007 aimed at improving their skills to help make them more effective at their nature-based jobs. This course was just one of several from WWF-Malaysia’s Gunung Stong State Park (GSSP) conservation project’s capacity building component, where we organise various courses for local communities at no charge.
Updates from Phase II of the Gunung Stong State Park (Proposed) Project
WWF-Malaysia has completed the Draft Preliminary Management Plan for the park and while awaiting its presentation and endorsement by the State Parks Technical Committee, has progressed to Phase II which is aimed at developing a capacity buiding programme for guides and locals in the Dabong and Jelawang area.
