Community Conservation Education
WE are responsible for our planet
Communities can be strong catalysts for positive change. When community members are environmentally aware, educated, and equipped with the right skills to make the right choices in life, they become empowered citizens - able to take responsibility for the welfare of their own natural heritage and their lives.Recognising this, WWF-Malaysia is involved in a wide range of community-based activities, from awareness-building and grassroots conservation programmes, to comprehensive community-based participation and mobilisation towards sustainable management of natural resources in specific priority sites.
WWF-Malaysia’s community-based education programmes are aimed at a variety of target audiences, including
- defined target groups such as FELDA officers and plantation owners in our Tiger Conservation Programme;
- chalet operators in the Turtle Conservation Programme in Melaka;
- school children in the Green Turtle Conservation Project in Ma’ Daerah;
- local communities of the Lower Kinabatangan River in the Kinabatangan - Corridor of Life Project;
- coastal communities and local fishermen in our Sulu-Sulawesi Marine Ecoregion Programme; and
- highland community members of Fraser’s Hill.
