The Government of the Republic of Indonesia, through the Indonesia National Working Group for Heart of Borneo (HoB), will host the HoB Week from 10-12 October 2017 in Tarakan, North Kalimantan.

The year 2017 marks the 10th anniversary of the HoB Initiative – a transboundary collaboration of the three Governments of Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia and Malaysia – to conserve and sustainably manage the biodiversity, ecosystems and natural resources in the Heart of Borneo. Since its inception in 2007, the three Governments have convened the annual trilateral meetings to review progress and maintain commitment to a number of initiatives in the HoB.

This year, the 11th HoB Trilateral Meeting will be held on 11-12 October at Universitas Borneo Tarakan. The two-day meeting will bring together representatives from the three Bornean Governments to discuss and review the development and progress that have been made in their respective areas of HoB since the signing of the HoB Declaration in 2007.

In celebrating the 10th Anniversary of the HoB Initiative, a series of celebration activities will be held to mark this momentous occasion. Supported by Provincial Government of North Kalimantan, WWF-HoB (WWF-Indonesia and WWF-Malaysia), ADB-HoB and other partners, the following activities will take place on the sidelines of the trilateral meeting:

10 October: Expert Dialogue “Safeguarding the Natural Environment for Sustainability and Prosperity in the Heart of Borneo”, 08:30-16:00 hrs (local time), Universitas Borneo Tarakan – invited guests and media

WWF-Indonesia and WWF-Malaysia will jointly launch The Environmental Status of Borneo 2016 report during the session.

10 – 12 October: HoB Expo with photos exhibition, photo tour and photography class, 09:00-16:00 hrs, Universitas Borneo Tarakan – open to public

The exhibition will feature photos of WWF HoB work in Sabah, Sarawak and Kalimantan provinces, representing the five HoB trilateral strategic plans of actions (SPA) on transboundary cooperation, protected areas, sustainable resource management, ecotourism and capacity building. Photo tour and Photography class will be held for high school and university students and the local photography communities in the area.

11 October: Launching of Visit the Heart of Borneo, a multi-year campaign to promote HoB as an ecotourism destination, 19:00-21:00 hrs, Gedung Pemerintah Kota Tarakan – delegates and invited media only

12 October: Business Meeting “In Looking for Sustainable Funding for the Heart of Borneo Green Economic Development”, 19:00-21:00 hrs, Swiss-Belhotel Tarakan – invited guests only
